Alliant International University’s new campus was inaugurated on 18th February 2009 at a very impressive ceremony presided over by Dr. Geoffrey Cox and other Alliant dignitaries, both from the US and Mexico.

The evening’s proceedings began with the naming of the new campus library in honor of Dr. Ruth Troeller, professor, mentor and example for Alliant Mexico City campus students for almost thirty years. Dr. Cox unveiled a plaque with her name above the entrance to the library and addressed the many guests gathered outside. Then, Jorge Larrea, one of Dr. Troeller’s many ex-students spoke, and finally Doctor Troeller herself gave a short speech. President Cox then presented Dr. Troeller with an honorary proclamation issued by the university’s board of trustees.

Dr. Cox proceeded to inaugurate the new campus by cutting a ribbon stretched across the broad stairs leading to the campus auditorium. Once inside, the platform party was presented to the one hundred and fifty guests gathered there by Eric Pearse, Director of the Marshall Goldsmith School of Management Program, Mexico, and Master of Ceremonies for the evening. This group of distinguished guests included:

  • Dr. Geoffrey Cox, President of Alliant International University,
  • Hector Avila, President of Red de Universidades (Alliant’s Mexican partner),
  • Dr. Russ Newman, Provost of the university,
  • Dr. Jim Goodrich, Founding Dean of the Marshall Goldsmith School of Management,
  • Linda Cabellero-Sotelo, a member of Allliant’s board of trustees, and
  • Fernando Gonzalez, the Executive Director of the Mexico City campus.
The guests who were present consisted of ambassadors and consuls, business executives, campus faculty, staff, students and alumni, their families, and the many friends and well-wishers of Alliant International University, Mexico. Dr. Cox, Dr Goodrich, and Linda Cabellero-Sotelo addressed the those present who received their words with great interest and pleasure.

Afterward, everyone was invited to continue celebrating the inauguration, and to take the opportunity to get to know the new campus’ installations. The atmosphere in the auditorium was very lively, and one of real jubilation at this long awaited and momentus event. The evening was highly enjoyable and a memorable occasion for all who attended.

It would be difficult to underestimate the importance of this inauguration for Alliant. The new campus offers more space, greatly improved installations and facilities such as the new library and the large auditorium, as well as modern functional classrooms, all in a more convenient location. Without a doubt, these notable improvements give Alliant Mexico a wonderful opportunity to improve all of the services it provides for its community.

More importantly, the new campus signals the commitment of Alliant International University to Mexico, and its determination to have the Mexico City campus be an important part of the multi-cultural and international sphere within which the University carries out its teaching, learning, and research. After more than thirty years, it marks the beginning of a new era for the Mexico City campus, one in which it seeks to play a far more prominent role in higher education in Mexico as the country continues to insert itself in a globalized world.

After a prolonged period of difficulty and retrenchment, the Mexico City campus is once again looking to the future, to a period of expansion and development. One driven by Alliant’s resiliance, its long tradition of innovation, and its dedication to a unique calling as a professional practice university in a multi-cultural/international context.
