Proposition 63 Stipends for CSPP Students

As a result of the passing of Proposition 63 (known as the Mental Health Services Act or MHSA) in November of 2004, the California Department of Mental Health has granted Alliant International University a three-year stipend program available to qualified CSPP students. This program is intended to help support efforts to develop curricula and methods of teaching that appropriately integrate theory and practice, and promote the values of wellness, recovery and resilience as expressed in the MHSA; to help support efforts to increase consumer and family member employment in the public mental health workforce; and to help support efforts to contribute to a diverse, culturally sensitive and competent public mental health workforce.

An award of over 21 stipends will be available for CSPP students in the spring of 2009, and 20 stipends in each academic year 2009-2010 and 2010-2011. Each stipend is $20,772 per student. Students are eligible to apply for this educational stipend once they have advanced to doctoral candidacy. Students who are awarded the stipends are expected to work for one year in the County Public Mental Health System[i] upon graduation, which may be done during the post doctoral internship year.

In addition to receiving this stipend, students will be immersed in a mentoring and coaching system that will include a peer mentor, a coach working in County Public Mental Health, and CSPP core faculty advisor with experience in the County Mental Health System. Job placement resources and assistance will also be available to awarded students.

For more information, please contact Dr. Eduardo Morales at emorales@alliant.edu or 415-955-2124.

[i] Jobs in the County Public Health System include any mental health service agency that has a contract with the county or state government in California. This includes but is not limited to community-based organizations, clinics, and hospitals.
